Garden Tours

Garden Tours will be held Sunday, September, 12 and Monday September 13.  On Sunday, the Tour will first go to the garden of Steve Singer.  Steve Singer’s home garden is located in Kenosha WI, south of Milwaukee.  Steve is the proprietor of Wisconsin Roses, a source for many wonderful exhibition roses.  Additionally, Steve has hybridized excellent show roses:  ‘Olivia Rose’, ‘Swing Time’, ‘Kristin Singer’ to name a few. Sited in a modestly sized residential lot, Steve’s garden has raised beds containing both old favorites and new varieties.  Roses are in-ground as well as in pots. While Steve’s hybridizing is located in two locations farther south, perhaps we will be lucky enough to see some up and coming beauties, brought in specially for this tour.  Photo Gallery

Our second stop will be to the gardens of Joe & Carrie Bergs located in Union Grove Wisconsin.  This 15-acre farmstead property features several large beds including a perennial cutting garden, butterfly gardens, a rock garden, a hollyhock stand, hydrangea row, a pumpkin patch and fragrant rose gardens with 350 rose bushes including hybrid teas, Austin English shrubs, floribundas, minifloras and Old Garden Roses. In the front yard, surrounded by a hosta garden, stands a magnificent 170-year-old sugar maple recognized by the local Hoy Audubon Society as one of their "Trees We Love” in 2016. Joe and Carrie, members of both the Greater Milwaukee Rose Society and the Gateway Rose Society,  are enthusiastic rose exhibitors in  local, regional and national shows.  Relax in the yard, enjoy refreshments as you wander the property.  Photo Gallery

The Monday tour will be dedicated to Will Radler’s Rose Innovations test gardens and home garden, the Radler Rosarium..  To say garden, seems very inadequate.  Will’s property, located in a residential area near the famed Boerner Botanical Garden, is his dream garden, made possible from the enormous success of his ‘Knock Out’ rose.  The original 'Knock Out' rose is still in the garden!  For those of you who toured Will’s garden as a part of the 2010 Mini Convention and Rose Show, rest assured, the gardens have not only matured magnificently, but so much more hardscape and many more plantings have been added.  You will be amazed at this two-acre wonder land.  It is planned that the staff of Rose Innovations will also be on hand to answer questions about the hybridization program.  You will see dozens of test roses in the garden.  You will walk away with a sense of where Will is taking his breeding program.  Photo Gallery
